Transit Campaign (Oxford, England)
One night in 1605, the world blinked, and Oxford, England, found itself in a different universe. Farms used to stretch out to the horizon from the city's walls. Now dense jungle pushed up around the defenses. The city streets, before kept in order by regular patrols, now filled with monsters of a kind only mentioned in faery tales.
Most everyone died within a few weeks. Indescribable things scaled the walls -- or flew right in -- and devoured people. Nightmarish beasts crawled up out of the sewers to murder people in their homes, or worse, drag them down into who-knows-where. The survivors holed up in safe places, hoarded food and water, and tried to stay alive.
Some of the inhabitants began changing. They developed magical powers for fighting and healing and for understanding the magic that weaves the world together. Some of these people devoted their power for the cause of good. They helped people where they could, bringing food and supplies to the needy. Others turned their abilities toward evil.
This is the metrocalypse we live in. The way home is uncertain. There are still monstrous things here, some of them us.
